It appears significant demand for lots in Rosenort's Prairie Hearth development will push R.M. of Morris council to make a decision on phase two of the area located on the town's south end sooner than expected. Reeve Scott Siemens says that reality means the further expansion will need to be considered in Council's 2024 budget deliberations.

"As of right now there is significant demand for more of our smaller lot sizes, so we are looking at likely having to open phase two next year," he explained. "So that will require more dirt work in getting the lots ready for sale, hopefully, by the tail end of next year (2024), and with that is more infrastructure requirements."

The municipality saw record housing starts in 2023, 35 over the course of the year across the R.M., with Siemens noting it appears that trend may continue in the coming year. With that in mind, the record housing starts last year and significant interest in Rosenort's Prairie Hearth development will play a substantial role in upcoming 2024 budget discussions.

"Obviously an expansion like Prairie Hearth will hit our capital  budget, amongst some other big ticket items we always know we will need to add," he said. "That will be top of mind in the next two months for the various decisions that we make, as well as continuing to try to provide good recreation properties for all of our communities."
