You may recall at the end of November we connected with Joan van der Linde from Morris about her project The Bread Basket. After responding to a call she felt in March of last year to bake bread... many, many loaves of bread... Joan announced right here she wanted to reach 1,000 loaves baked and given to those in need, and in need of a pick me up, exactly one year after she baked that first loaf. That on year anniversary was March 23rd, 2021.

It was a bold goal to announce on the Morning Show, one that would take a tremendous amount of work, dedication and most importantly, love and care for the community. We were excited to have Joan back on the Morning Show today to announce she reached her goal!!!

"I would have never, in a million years, have guessed it would have went the way it did," van der Linde told Morning Show Co-Host Chris Sumner. "When I started this, I thought, well maybe one hundreds loaves, and then it kind of picked up momentum. And then, when I spoke to you, Chris, and made this bold proclamation I would reach a thousand, I didn't actually know what I was getting myself into."

We continued our conversation with Joan by asking who received the 1,000th loaf, and also if she was able to keep track of every person who received a loaf... building on the Bread Journal she started at the beginning of the Bread Basket project.

Joan, congratulations on reaching that 1,000 loaves baked goal you so boldly announced on the Morning Show in late November! Your work to raise up others during a time of great challenge is truly what being a loving neighbour is about. Good luck with Chapter 2 of the Bread Basket starting Monday, April 5th. We’ll be sure to check in soon.
