The Winkler branch of the South Central Regional Library (SCRL) is expected to remain closed for at least eight weeks while restoration work continues.

On June 9, a burst pipe soaked much of the library's carpeting and walls causing extensive damage. SCRL Director Cathy Ching says they hope to move forward with the annual Summer Reading program for children and expect to make further announcements soon despite a reopening date pushed to early-to-mid August.

Those with books from the Winkler Branch are asked to hold onto them, as all due dates will be back-dated and no fines will be applied.

During this time, Ching also encourages Winkler residents to visit one of SCRL's four other branches in Morden, Altona, Miami and Manitou.

"Your library card works in each one of them and you may find some unexpected treasures while visiting a different branch," she says.

Staff also thank patrons for their patience and support during this time.
