A man from St. Jean faces numerous charges as the result of a crime spree in Winnipeg Tuesday morning.

Winnipeg Police say at approximately 6:00 a.m, a male victim was walking in the area of Notre Dame Avenue and Winnipeg Avenue when he was approached by another man who allegedly knocked the victim's coffee over his face and torso without being provoked.

The male suspect then walked into a nearby restaurant where he jumped over the counter and demanded to use the phone. Staff attempted to flee, but the suspect grabbed a female employee and was handed a phone that he later stole. He then grabbed a carafe of hot tea and threw it towards a customer but struck a wall. Staff fled the restaurant by crawling through a drive-thru window.

A short time later, the suspect hit a gas station in the Weston/ Brooklands area, where he stole a pack of cigarettes. He then started smoking inside the business. The individual vandalized the store; throwing merchandise and lit cigarettes at a female employee. He then held a lit lighter up to a gas nozzle before returning inside the store and stealing a drink.

The male suspect then walked into a nearby convenience store where he demanded to use a phone, allegedly threatening to kill a male employee. The suspect stole another pack of cigarettes and began smoking inside the store.

Officers arrived on scene and used force to safely take the suspect into custody. He was transported to hospital and treated due to his agitated state. Police believe recent drug use may have played a role.

Police have charged a 20-year-old from St. Jean with two counts of Assault with a Weapon, three counts of Robbery, two counts of Mischief Under $5,000/ Obstruct in Enjoyment, Uttering Threats - Cause Death or Bodily Harm and Uttering Threats - Damage Property.

He was detained in custody.
