The biggest fossil find of the year for the Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre is now on display. A portion of the 18 foot long Xiphactinus fossil discovered last month is now available to view by the general public.

C.F.D.C. General Manager Tyler Schroeder says the display is still part of an ongoing excavation.

Schroeder admits this was a quick turn around to get the fossil on display.

Schroeder says this is the Discovery Centre's second biggest find in three years, adding it's an amazing success story and further legitimizes its position in the world as it relates to paleontology and marine reptile fossils.

He was asked if there was a permanent future for the fossil at the centre.

The Xiphactinus fossil display is among numerous improvements and renovations to the C.F.D.C. galleries this year, including upgrades to "Bruce" the centre's Mosasaur, and the installation of a new interactive exhibit. The improvements are already leading to another record visitation year, as over 6,750 people have visited the museum in 2010.
