The MLA for Borderland is sharing his thoughts on setting a pair of records in the Manitoba Legislature.

At just 25 years old, Josh Guenter is the youngest Progressive Conservative MLA to ever serve in the house and, according to the PC Caucus, he is the youngest member serving in the current 42nd Legislature.

While he says these designations are special in their own way, Guenter notes they also serve to help him stay focused and take the job, and the fact that the people put him there, seriously.

"It's very humbling at this age to get that kind of endorsement, and so I intend to deliver on that and do the people of Borderland proud," he said.

We asked Guenter if he thought this was a sign of things to come for politics in Manitoba.

"I really hope so. I think it would be positive," he said. "I'm happy to be part of the next generation of young leaders who are going to be stepping in to take our responsibility in society. I hope we see a continuation of this trend and I think we will see it in time."

In that same breath however, Guenter feels the goal of every MLA should be to represent every one in the spectrum from rich or poor, young or old, wherever they are in life and whatever their identity.

With 34 of 36 PC MLAs returning to the Manitoba Legislature after the September election, Guenter says he and another first-time MLA have the benefit of getting to learn from people with a lot of experience.
