The Municipality of Rhineland submitted the following overland flooding update early Saturday afternoon:

Flooding

Many creeks and ditches are rising quickly, as water from the west enters into the Municipality Rhineland. Some creeks are at or near capacity, and at risk of spilling over their banks.

We are asking residents to:

1. Prepare your properties for the risk of overland flooding

2. To prepare for washed out roads in a variety of locations in the Municipality

Sand bagging sites

1. A new self serve sand bag site has been established at 2145 Road 4E (Halbstadt Community Center)

2. A limited number of pre-made sand bags are still available for pickup at the 227 10 Ave NW in Altona (Altona Curling Club parking) There is also a self serve sand bag option at this location

3. A limited number of pre-made sand bags are available in Plum Coulee at 215 Railway Ave. There is also a self serve sand bag option at this location

Sewer Systems

The sewer systems in Plum Coulee and Gretna currently near capacity due to the high volume of rainwater being pumped into the sewer system.

We are requesting that residents limit their usage of water where possible, and if you have a sump pump, please ensure the hose leads onto your yard, and is not connected to the sewer system.

Public Works crews are working to relieve the pressure on the sewer systems in these communities, however there continues to be a risk some homes may experience sewer backup.
