After a number of years of significant steady growth followed by several recent years of modest growth, the Garden Valley School Division is back in familiar territory, experiencing a significant jump in enrolment.  As of September 30th, registration was up to 4,447, 100 more students than the board had projected.

There are two hot spots in the division experiencing a big part of the overall growth.  Garden Valley Collegiate has 49 more students, and Parkland Elementary is up 25.  "We'll be in conversation with those principals to determine how we, if at all, look at additional staffing to meet some of the declared needs there," said Superintendent Vern Reimer.

Garden Valley's enrolment at the end of June was 4,375.

Reimer said the new growth is due to numerous factors, like students returning to public education from home schooling, some students that moved away have come back to the community, and simply just general growth in the city.

Reimer said the enrolment increase is definitely manageable, and by no means are they in a crisis situation.
