The Manitoba Standardbred Racing Industry will hit the track in late June.

Because covid health orders remain in place, racing organizers decided like last year they would do all of their races out of one site and that’s at the track in Miami.

President Trevor Williams looks forward to races starting up for another summer.

“Much the same as last year and we hope things get better this summer but right now we are limited on what we can do and we’ve hammered out another 10 racing dates for Miami, Manitoba.”

“We’re hoping to see some people in the stands. We had limited crowds last year and right now we aren’t allowed to have people in the grandstands. Racing starts June 26th and we will go 10 consecutive Saturdays after that.”

Trevor Williams is confident they’ll be able to get people out to the races. He’s hoping that after the end of May public health orders might be loosened.

“We’ll have about 100 horses racing this year. We have horsemen coming from Saskatchewan. Very shortly they’ll move onto a farm in Manitoba to quarantine, so they can race at the end of June. As far as Manitoba goes we have horsemen from across the province.

The horses used in harness racing are Standardbreds, and only a registered Standardbred may compete in a sanctioned harness race.
