"We are absolutely floored with the support we've received."

That from NHL star Eric Fehr of the newly minted Falk Fehr Foundation. The initiative from two local NHL veterans held a fundraiser golf tournament Friday.

"We just wanted to set this event up and give ourselves a chance to make a mark on the community," he says. "We are beyond impressed with the amount of support."

Eric Fehr and Justin Falk created the foundation to give back to their home community. The event raised over $50,000 for Central Station and the Winkler Food Cupboard.

"I knew there would be a lot of support but I couldn't have foreseen something like this," Falk says.

Fehr says it's been a gratifying experience and plans to grow the foundation together will Falk long beyond their hockey years.

"We just felt a calling to start this up and get more involved in the community," Falk adds.

The golf fundraiser is part of a nine-year tradition for the NHL stars, only now they've created an official foundation in cooperation with the Winkler Community Foundation and renamed the Winkler Pro-Am event the Hockey Champions Charity Golf Tournament.

Fehr says while their kids aren't ready to take part in the event, they will be the next generation stewarding the Falk Fehr Foundation. "Eventually they'll be the people making decisions for the foundation and hopefully helping run the golf tournament and different events we plan on putting on."

Falk adds the foundation wouldn't be possible without the support from their families, "we wouldn't be here without them."
