Wanting to spread cheer in the community, the Morden Area Foundation (MAF) held a parade Thursday.

The parade covered a vast area of Morden, says MAF Executive Director Lynda Lambert. It allowed people to sit on their driveways, watch from their cars or have plenty of distance between them if they wanted to watch on the side of the street. The effort was in recognition of Pay It Forward May, Lambert says.

"You can buy things for people, or simply make someone smile with random acts of kindness. It's just anything to lift people's spirits."

The parade had a myriad of different elements including cars, horses, clowns and emergency services vehicles with the hope of having a massively successful event, and to thank people for everything they've done within the community, through the COVID-19 crisis.

"We have one of the best communities in the area," says MAF Chairperson Allison Braun, "I've lived here for all my life. Through this whole pandemic, we've had a lot of people shut-in, people missing their families and friends. We thought this was a great way to get people out, and enjoy a parade. Lynda has done a great job of bringing us all together in a celebration all about our community."

Zack and Mitch Walske, who were in the parade, say they were there in support of local farmers, because they say they have to recognize everybody during times like this.
