Volunteers are moving ahead with plans to further complete the original vision for Access Field in Altona.

Ken Wiebe is one of three founding members still serving on the Access Field of Dreams committee. He says a field house is one of a trio of items left on the to-do list.

"The dreams that we had have almost been realized," he said, over 12 years after the committee was formed.

The facility, coming in at just over 1,100 sq. ft., will include permanent bathrooms and change rooms for umpires, as well as serve as a tournament headquarters and admission stand. It will be located on the west side of the entrance path to the ball diamond.

"Initially we were going to try and do it this year but with delays related to COVID-19 it's just getting too late," explained Wiebe, adding if the concrete foundation is poured this fall and volunteers rally during construction in spring, he is confident the field house can be finished in time for the 2021 season.

Also part of the original plan for the facility are trees to provide shade and serve as a tie-in to the Altona Centennial Park across the street, as well as a digital reader board on the scoreboard.
