CKMW Morning Show Host Steve Mullin gets set at the plate at the annual Clearwater Baseball Tournament

About seventy teams and several hundred baseball players from around the province were in Clearwater yesterday for the community’s 59th annual tournament. Tom Stone is President of the local sports club, and tells us the teams range from senior calibre down to eight and under's. Just under 1,900 people came through the gate on Canada Day.

He says it takes a lot of volunteers to pull off the tournament, but with many of them having helped out for years, things run very smoothly.

He adds it’s a very important event to the entire community, with proceeds supporting projects at the hall, curling, rink, and skating rink.

Looking ahead to the 2011 event which will mark the 60th anniversary of the Clearwater baseball tournament, stone says some special plans are being put into place. He tells us those include a reunion for all the players who have been part of the Clearwater senior men’s baseball team over the years.
