It was an exciting day for many recently as a project that people have been dreaming of for a long time finally got underway. After years of planning and getting the funds in place, construction at the site of Winkler Centennial Golf Course's new clubhouse has started.

Golf Course Head Professional Greg Hesom says drainage has already been put in place and the concrete pad for the building should be installed any day.

The new clubhouse is being built south of the current clubhouse building on the overflow parking lot, just behind the current number nine green.

Recognizing they are at the mercy of the weather, over the fall and winter, Hesom says the plan is to build as they can over the upcoming months.

The new facility will bring the pro shop and Mulligans restaurant under one roof. "I look forward to having that all in one building," said Hesom. "We're just very thankful for the community as well as the corporate support that has allowed this to happen."

Once the new clubhouse is open and Mulligans is able to move into the new facility, the current Mulligans building will be demolished and that area will become a part of the parking lot. The current pro shop and cart shed will stay for cart storage as well as storage for the members.

With no firm date in mind, the hope is the have the new building operational sometime during the 2020 season.
