I got to spend my first outing as the new Celebrate Summer Host at the Curtis Klassen Memorial walk/run, and the day couldn’t have gone better! The weather was perfect with 26 degrees and the runners were very welcoming of the slight cool breeeze.

With over 90 participants between the ages of one to eighty one, donations added up to almost $5000.00 before the event was even over! Funds raised during the event will be going towards sports groups including swimming lessons, different educational needs, and community projects.

There was a 10km run and a 5km walk, a candy dash for children of all ages, and plenty of food and water for everyone. Prizes were distributed after with many people taking home multiple prizes in different categories.

I had the opportunity to speak to Eric Hildebrand, one of the 40-50 event coordinators who took part in planning and setting up for this fundraiser. He mentioned how great it was to be able to be involved in the community and give back in such a great way and keep the memory of his late classmate alive.

I got the chance to sit down with a few people who shared stories about Klassen. They mentioned how he was involved in sports in the community, loved school and his friends, and the silly dares he used to participate in.
