Favourable thawing and melting conditions have continued in the U.S. portion of the Red River Valley. In its latest update Monday afternoon, the National Weather Service Grand Forks office expects a slow and gentle melt to continue this week with favourable temperatures and dry weather conditions.

Temperatures above freezing during the day, and temperatures below freezing overnight, continue to slow down the melting process.

Little to no precipitation is expected over the next seven days in the U.S. Red River Valley.

Increasing temperatures will likely contribute to more locations seeing ponding, however, river flooding is not expected to begin through the end of the week.

The update notes the flood forecast released March 15th continues to hold true for all points along the Red River in North Dakota. That means essentially all points along the Red from Fargo north to Pembina have a 90% chance or higher of reaching major flood stage.
