A home in Woodridge was destroyed by fire early Tuesday morning.

Bill Stowe is the Municipal Fire Chief for Piney. He says they got the call around 2:30 am to a home on 2nd Street.

"Fully engulfed when we arrived," says Stowe.

Firefighters from Woodridge, Piney and Sprague worked hard to prevent the fire from spreading.

"There was some wind blowing at the time and we were certainly concerned about the dry conditions," says Stowe. "But we were able to save neighbouring properties."

According to Stowe there was one occupant in the home at the time of the fire who was able to escape safely and make the call to 911. He says to the best of his knowledge there were no injuries.

Stowe says he does not have a cause or damage estimate at this time. The Office of the Fire Commissioner is investigating.

The Fire Chief says the home was approximately 15 years old.

Crews were on scene for about four hours.
