The wildland fire continues to burn out of control near the community of Sandilands. As of this morning, the Rural Municipality of Piney says the fire remains uncontained and active.

The RM is under a State of Local Emergency and Council has issued a complete burn ban. According to the RM, current weather conditions are not favourable as there is little moisture in the forecast, with the potential for isolated thunderstorms.

To date, no structures have been lost and crews continue to focus on value protection on those properties greatest at risk.

Provincial fire attack crews remain on site. Two helicopters are dedicated to the fire to provide aerial support. Heavy equipment remains on standby. Some provincial resources have been redeployed to other provincial fires. The fire situation within the RM of Piney is improving. The public is reminded to remain vigilant.

The size of the fire remains unchanged. At last count, it had burned approximately 2,000 hectares.

As mentioned, a complete burn ban for the RM of Piney is now in place. No burning of any solid fuel is permitted; this includes campfires, burn barrels and outdoor stoves. Only propane barbeques and propane fire pits are permitted.

The communities of Sandilands, Woodridge and St. Labre are not at risk. Travel to properties in these communities is permitted.
