CKMW/Eagle 93.5 FM News Director Chris Sumner rides his bike to work nearly everyday during spring and summer

It's a way to promote physical activity and introduce people to a simple way to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. Morden's first Bike To Work Day is being held June 25th, organized by the community led emissions reduction program and A Rocha Prairie Canada. M.S.T.W. Planning District Climate Change Coordinator Kelly Stock tells us transportation accounts for 62% of harmful greenhouse gas emissions in the MSTW region.

Bike To Work Day Morden 2010 is an initiative aimed at reducing those greenhouse gas emissions, and a way to promote physical activity. All Bike To Work Day Morden 2010 participants are invited to stop by the United Church parking lot between 7:00 and 8:30 a.m. for a free breakfast of muffins, juice, and fruit, sponsored by ARocha Prairie Canada.

ARocha and CLER will also be hosting a free film night on Bike To Work Day Morden 2010 to promote the bicycling culture around the world.  This event is open to the public and starts at 7 p.m. at the Morden Library with three short films about celebrating Bike-To-Work Day in San Francisco, the Ciclovia bike festival in Bogota Colombia, and Copenhagen's climate friendly bike friendly streets, followed by the award winning documentary film Veer.

Veer explores America’s fast-growing bicycling culture, and sub-culture, by profiling five people whose lives are inextricably tied to bicycling and the bike-centric social groups they belong to.  All from different backgrounds, these peoples’ lives and their individual efforts intersect to create community change they never anticipated.  Veer examines what it means to be part of a community, and how social movements are formed.

Potential participants are encouraged to register their interest with Kelly Stock by calling 822-6223.
