It appears the Emerson-area evaded the frosty overnight temperatures forecast Monday, according to Larry Neumann who farms in the area.

While he hadn't surveyed the crops as of interview time, Neumann says he couldn't see any evidence of frost in the yard Tuesday morning, noting the thermometer still read 3.5 degrees Celsius. He admitted, however, frost is now a harvest concern moving forward. The mercury is forecast to dip below zero again Tuesday night.

"Soybeans are still quite green on our farm and frost would do some damage. I have some later canola that I'm guessing the frost would hurt as well," he said.

Despite recent intermittent showers, Neumann says some good harvest progress was made on his farm in the last 3 to 4 days. Cereals should wrap up Tuesday, and then it'll be on to peas and canola.

"Wheat was a little disappointing this year. The oats have been turning out quite well...everything seems to look real good with fusarium being almost non-existent this year," added Neumann.
