The MLA for Emerson is honoured to named Manitoba's Progressive Conservative Caucus Whip. Premier Brian Pallister announced the appointment Tuesday.

As Whip, Graydon will serve as a sort of enforcer of the Legislative rules among his fellow Tory MLAs.

"I've got a great team to work with, it'll be a challenge going forward while everybody learns the rules and regulations, but it's a great feeling to be working with thirty-nine conservatives going in the right direction to make Manitoba a better place."

As Caucus Whip, Graydon will also ensure that all governing MLAs appear in the Legislature when a vote is being taken and is in charge of coming up with a two-day rotation for members to appear in the House on non-vote days.

"I will draw up two teams out of the forty and appoint two captains and they alternate every day in the House so that we have twenty people in the House at all times, at the same time the other twenty can be doing their own constituency business. If they're not going to be able to be there they have to be legitimate reasons and they have to find an alternative, but they have to notify me first."

While Graydon says he'll have to brush up on a few of the rules, he points to his nine years experience as an MLA that will certainly be an asset to the new job.

Meantime, the Emerson MLA was also named to the Manitoba Hydro Board of Directors. He says it's an honour to serve on behalf of one of "Manitoba's crown jewels."

Graydon explains this new Board has been given a mandate to reign in the spending of Manitoba Hydro in order to maintain low rates and to use the Crown Corporation in the same way Saskatchewan uses oil to attract people, with jobs.

There is no question that Directors will also deal with the BiPole III project, among many other duties.

"As well as long-term contracts that Manitoba Hydro may have, environmental issues that we have to deal with and also Indigenous Peoples' concerns," explains Graydon.

And while he admits there will be challenges, Graydon says serving a new Board with no previous prejudice will be a pleasure.
