It was the 16th time Canada captured gold at the Spengler Cup, the fourth in the past five years… but most importantly for Winkler native Eric Fehr… it was his first international gold playing for Team Canada in his first tournament wearing the Maple Leaf!

Canada beat Trinec Ocelari of the Czech Republic 4-0 Tuesday morning to capture the title, and in the process, outscored its opponents 19-2 over the course of the tournament… a new record for the fewest goals allowed, and also breaking a tie with HC Davos for most Spengler Cups won.

Eric’s brother, Justin, along with an entire contingent of the Fehr Family, were in the stands for Tuesday’s final game. CFAM Radio 950 Morning Show Co-Host Chris Sumner caught up with Justin, via phone, to talk about the special moment for the family and Eric.

Thank you, Justin, for taking a few minutes away from the celebration to share some time with us!

Eric finished the tournament playing four games, and scoring his first international goal against HC Davos December 28th at 7:16 of the second period in a 5-1 victory for the Canadians.
