The well above average weather continued Tuesday across the province, and it turned out to be a record setting day in a number of Southern Manitoba communities. Courtesy of Environment Canada, here are some of the preliminary new records set (all temperature readings in degrees Celsius):

Emerson - Preliminary new record of 21.1 (previous of 19.1 set in 2008)
Gretna - Preliminary new record of 20.6 (previous of 18.5 set in 2008)
Morden - Preliminary new record of 20.4 (old 18.5 in 1981)
Pilot Mound - Preliminary new record of 18.5 (old 17.7 in 1981)
Kleefeld - Preliminary new record of 18.4 (old 17.5 in 1981)

"Looking at the forecast for Wednesday, it could be another record setting day, with highs expected to be in the 18 to 20 range in the western Red River Valley," says CMOS Accredited Weathercaster Chris Sumner. "Cooler conditions are expected in the southwestern part of the province and Southeastern areas, but there could be a couple new marks set in those regions too."

Sumner explains a strong southerly flow will develop Thursday ahead of an approaching cold front, pushing temperatures once again into the upper teens, noting it could  be another record setting day tomorrow. "Once that cold front passes, we'll see temperatures drop to the 10 to 12 degree range for Friday."

Meanwhile, Sumner continues to keep an eye on a Colorado Low expected to develop later this week which the long-range forecast models are suggesting could impact Southern Manitoba at some point overnight Saturday into Sunday.
