The fundraising aspect of the new tennis courts project in Altona is underway.

Dr. Ken Kliever is heading the initiative.

He says so far they have raised about $58,000 from local businesses, the town, and private donations.

Kliever is aiming for three courts to be built, two doubles and one single.

He says if there is a reasonable response, there is a good chance construction could start this year.

Kliever says his goal is to create an association of local tennis players that can help with fundraising, and perhaps in the future, stage tournaments and give tennis lessons.

He notes these courts will be an asset to our community.

The total project will cost about $96,000.
