A recent provincial grant is helping Roseau River Bible Camp prepare for summer.

Executive Director Duane Goertzen says the camp recently received $75,000 from the Manitoba Government, funds which will go towards finishing the first floor of their new building, Cyprus Lodge.

“It’s a huge project that’s been going on for a couple of years and we are very excited to begin using it,” comments Goertzen who says his fellow staff members and volunteers are working quickly to make the facilities usable by the time summer camp starts in three weeks.

Goertzen indicates that the main floor is the first phase of their two-phase building project and includes four cabin units. Each unit has air conditioning and fully outfitted washrooms, luxuries most of their current lodgings are lacking.

“It's going to be a very comfortable stay," the director remarks. "It also gives room for more friendships to be built, and more children to hear the good news of Christ.”

In addition to the cabin space, the funds will also go towards the purchasing of new doors and decking.

Goertzen says they applied for this grant a while back and were sort of counting on it.

“We were hoping and praying for this grant and we found out just a couple of days ago that this came through,” he notes, “this is a big thing for us.”

Goertzen feels these renovations will go a long way in making the camp an even better place. He says the additional room will allow more kids to come and experience the joys of summer camp.
