RCMP are reminding drivers to stay safe this long weekend.

Media Relations Officer Paul Manaigre notes nine Manitobans have lost their lives in motor vehicle collisions in just over a week. Manitoba RCMP responded to two separate fatal motorcycle collisions on June 22 and again on June 26.

With the long weekend approaching, and increased traffic expected on highways as Manitobans head to beaches, cottages, campsites, and other holiday destinations, RCMP are urging people to drive sober, wear a seatbelt, and slow down.

Maniagre adds it's important to drive to conditions and be mindful of your surroundings, as well as keep a safe distance between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you and put your phone away.

"We want everyone to reach their destination safely," he says.
