There will be new leadership at Altona's elementary school next year. 

Beginning January 6, 2020 Scott Hiebert will take over as Principal of Ecole Elmwood School.

For the past 4 years, Hiebert has served as the Vice-Principal of J.R. Walkof School in Winkler.

During his time in Education, he has worked as a classroom teacher with a kindergarten to grade 4 focus as well as in areas of Guidance, Student Support, Literacy Support and Intervention. 

A statement issued by Border Land School Division outlined Hiebert's professional qualifications that include a Bachelor of Education in Elementary Education and a Bachelor of Arts Degree, with a major in Psychology and a minor in English.

In addition, Hiebert has engaged in numerous professional learning opportunities such as the uLead: Summit of Educational Leadership, Counselling: The Essential Skills, RTI at Work, Restitution, and Patterning and Algebraic Reasoning in the Early Years. He has also served on Divisional Committees supporting Guidance Teachers, Resource Teachers, Technology Facilitators, Restitution and the Principal’s Council.

It is this collaborative approach that the Division says is one of the strengths that Hiebert will bring to the job. According to the statement, Hiebert believes that for students to achieve their potential, there must be collective responsibility and mutual accountability amongst all stakeholders. He is also passionate about the professional development of teaching and support staff.

Hiebert grew up in the community of Altona and now enjoys living here with his wife and their daughter.
