The Carman Cougars face the Killarney/Wawanesa Raiders today (1:15 p.m.) in the semifinals of the Provincial AA High School Hockey Championship in Boissevain. The Cougars skated to a 1-1 tie with the Minnedosa/Erickson Chancellors and then lost 4-3 to the Major Pratt Trojans in their two round robin games Thursday. Major Pratt and Glenboro/Carberry/Baldur will meet in the other semifinal. 


The Morden Bombers have joined the Winkler Royals and Warren Mercs in the SEMHL semifinals. Reed Peters stopped all 49 shots he faced as Morden defeated the Portage Islanders 6-0. Mike Rey had two goals and an assist for the hometown Bombers who took the best-of-five quarterfinal three games to one. Evan Weurch, Michael Hlady, Keane Boucher and Andrew Clark also scored for Morden.


Matteo Michels scored twice as the Brandon Wheat Kings edged the Raiders 3-2 in Prince Albert. Jayden Wiens also scored for Brandon while Carson Bjarnason made 31 saves. The Wheat Kings face the Western Hockey League's Eastern Conference Blades tonight in Saskatoon. 


It's day two of the Provincial Junior Curling Championships in Carman. Dayna Wahl of Altona lost her opener 7-6 to Emily Cherwinski of Assiniboine Memorial and will meet Zoey Terrick of the Heather in a B event game at 8:30 a.m. Shaela Hayward of Carman, who defeated Gina Giasson of Killarney 10-4 and Emily Cherwinski 8-5, will play in the A event qualifier at 4 p.m. Nash Sugden of Morden lost his opener 6-5 to Jace Freeman of Virden and will take on Tanner Graham of the Heather in a B event game at 12:15 p.m. That winner will face Zach Norris of Morris at 7:45 p.m. Norris downed Colin Desaulniers of the Heather 11-5 and then lost 6-3 to Jace Freeman. 


All four Manitoba teams have qualified for the playoffs at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Calgary. Jennifer Jones will meet Selena Sturmay of Alberta and four-time defending champion Kerri Einarson will take on Rachel Homan of Ontario in the 1 vs 2 Qualifiers at 1 p.m. The winners will go directly to the Page Playoff 1-2 game Saturday night while the losers meet the third-place pool finishers Kate Cameron and Kaitlyn Lawes tonight at 7 p.m. in the 3 vs 4 qualifiers.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed three American players – offensive tackle Kendall Randolph, defensive tackle Kenny Randall and linebacker Jeremiah Gemmel. Randolph joins the Blue Bombers after signing as an undrafted free agent with the Seattle Seahawks last May and suiting up for three preseason games before his release. Randall returns to the Blue Bombers after attending training camp with the club in 2022 and spending last year with the New Jersey Generals of the USFL where he played in 10 games and registered 2.5 quarterback sacks and 16 tackles. Gemmel comes to Winnipeg after playing in seven games last season with the Orlando Guardians of the XFL.
