Morden will face Pembina in the Zone 4 High School Hockey League semifinals after the Thunder and Tigers won the deciding third games in their respective opening round series on Saturday night. Carter Dyck scored at 11:36 of the third period and Easton Hildebrand made 35 saves as Morden blanked the Morris Mavericks 1-0 at the Access Event Centre. Gavin Johnston scored twice and Max Jago had three assists as Pembina shaded Carman 3-2 in Holland. Carter Leslie also scored for the Tigers. Ethan Wilde and Grant Friesen replied for the Cougars. The Miller Aces and Garden Valley Zodiacs will play game one of their semifinal Monday at Sunflower Gardens.


The Pembina Valley Hawks have clinched a playoff spot. Bryson Yaschyshyn stopped all 29 shots he faced as Pembina Valley defeated the Yellowhead Chiefs 4-0 in Shoal Lake. Kam Thomas, Cohen Pilkington, Liam Goertzen and Jayden Penner did the goal scoring for the Hawks who are in seventh place in the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League and have three games left. Pembina Valley is three points back of the sixth place Interlake Lightning.


The Warren Mercs have joined the Winkler Royals in round two of the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League. The Mercs downed the Notre Dame Hawks 7-1 and swept the best-of-five quarterfinal in three straight. The Ile des Chenes Northstars beat Ste. Anne 3-1 and cut the Aces lead in their series to two games to one.


Gabe Vilardi scored twice and Mark Scheifele had a goal and three assists as the Winnipeg Jets downed the Vancouver Canucks 4-2. Vilardi and Sean Monahan scored power play goals for the Jets who have won three in a row. Connor Hellebuyck made 35 saves in net for Winnipeg.


The Manitoba Moose lost 4-0 to the Milwaukee Admirals at Canada Life Centre. Phil Tomasino and Tye Felhaber had two goals each for the Admirals. Yaroslav Askarov made 14 saves in recording the shutout.


New York and Minnesota were winners in the Professional Women’s Hockey League Saturday afternoon. Nicole Hensley made 28 saves as Minnesota shaded Ottawa 2-1. Alex Carpenter scored 2:28 into overtime and Elm Creek’s Corinne Schroeder made 34 saves as New York edged Boston 2-1.
