Winkler Police Service is reminding residents of the stiff penalties facing drivers for illegal street racing.

Shortly before 10:00 p.m on September 13, police were monitoring traffic at the intersection of Main St. and Roblin Blvd. when they observed two northbound vehicles come to a stop at a red light on Main St. When the light turned green, police witnessed the two vehicles accelerate rapidly to approximately 75 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

Police conducted a traffic stop and each driver was issued a ticket for racing with another motor vehicle. Both vehicles were also impounded for seven days and both drivers had their driver's licenses suspended for seven days.
