Manitoba children need more physical activity, according to University of Manitoba Associate Dean of Physical Education Elizabeth Ready.

A report released Tuesday shows nine out of ten Manitoba children and teens don't get enough physical activity.

According to Canada's physical activity guide, children should get sixty minutes of moderate activity, plus thirty minutes of vigorous activity five times each week.

She notes if children in general don't boost their activity level, it could lead to higher levels of heart disease, diabetes, and other complications as they grow older.

Ready says parents are best positioned to turn these stats around.

She encourages parents to become more active and become good role models for their children.
