It will be at least a week before harvest and field work can resume, according to local farmer, Les Felsch. In total, he says about 5 inches of rain fell on his Emerson-area farm over Friday and Saturday and there's more in the forecast this week.

Despite the excess moisture, Felsch reports very little runoff as well as next to no standing water in his fields.

"I was totally surprised...it's hard to believe," he said, adding the rain appears to have filled in the cracks in the earth that developed over the course of the hot, dry summer. He says however, this extra moisture will benefit soil conditions heading into the next growing season.

Meantime, Felsch isn't expecting the weekend's heavy downpours to produce much crop damage, noting he's only got corn and soybeans left to harvest having just finished canola the day before.

"The corn is not going to be bothered with that and the soybeans, as long as their not standing in water, they'll be fine," he said.
