Swatting mosquitoes has not been an issue in Winkler this year.

Parks and Recreation Director Hank Hildebrand says the mosquito traps have yielded far lower numbers than last year.

He notes the good thing is they haven't had any reports of culex tarsalis mosquitoes to this point.

The lack of mosquitoes is attributed to the hot and dry weather and very little standing water around.

There is not enough demand to start fogging.

Hildebrand says they have not had to use as much larvicide this summer.

They only used one bag last application, whereas applications last year would average around eight bags.
