The Winkler and District Christmas Cheerboard received a $1,100 boost from a friendly rivalry this past weekend.

On Sunday, the Winkler Flyers took on the Winkler Fire Department to raise funds and food donations.

Last year, the Winkler and District Christmas Cheer Board delivered 396 hampers and anticipate approximately 400 this year as well.

With so many families in need, Cheer Board Chairperson Kris Derksen says support is always welcome.

Volunteers are also invited to drop off hampers on Wednesday, December 11 at the Winkler Mennonite Brethren Church.

"Come with a driver and... experience some of the joy from giving away these hampers," Cheer Board's Crystal Rempel says, adding it's a great family tradition.
