Youth groups will once again be going door-to-door collecting donations for the Altona and Rhineland Food Bank. The teens are hitting the streets tonight between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. as part of the FCC Drive Away Hunger campaign.

Food bank volunteer Ang Stoesz says the groups will try to get to the outlying communities as well, but notes a separate food drive will happen in Gretna in two weeks time.

She admits that the shelves at the Food Bank are quite bare these days but hopes now that summer is over, people will get back into the mind-set of supporting the organization. Stoesz offers a tip to those who donate.

"Everyone pretty much east the same, we're trying to focus on healthier food (like) things that can help the kids to school in the morning. Basically what you eat in the morning is what we need."

If you won't be home, Stoesz says you can just leave food items outside the door or drop off any contributions at the food bank - volunteers will be working there all evening.

The food bank gives out between 40 to 50 food hampers per week.

Youth in Winkler and Morden will also be going around tonight collecting food for their community's food banks.
