Work continues on paving 14th Avenue north of Altona. The gravel road became a main access for vehicles and semi trucks to enter town from the north side after Bunge closed off a portion of 10th Avenue running through plant property.

Mayor Melvin Klassen says progress is moving along well, adding fairly good weather has allowed workers to do their jobs without much delay. He notes they hope to have the road open within the next two weeks. Klassen adds the project received stimulus funding of $1.4 million, and with the tenders that went out, says they were able to stay within those numbers.

Meanwhile, Klassen adds the town has been approved to reduce the speed limit from 100 km/h to 70 km/h on Highway 30 north of the 14th Ave. intersection. He notes passing lanes will also be added to the intersection to improve safety.
