Residents of a home in Carman were able to safely get out of their house after a small fire set off the smoke alarms overnight.

Fire fighters were called to the home around 1:30 a.m. Monday morning, and upon arrival discovered smoke throughout the home thanks to a small fire smouldering in the kitchen.

According to the Carman Dufferin Fire Department's social media page, fire fighters removed the smouldering debris and a section of the countertop and floor in order to prevent further burning.

The cause has been ruled accidental as a result of unattended cooking.
