The risk for significant flooding related to snow melt remains "very, very low" in the U.S. portion of the Red River Basin this spring, according to the latest report from the National Weather Service.

Barring any late snowfall or heavy spring rain, below normal run-off is expected as the snow pack has largely melted away and underlying soil conditions remain dry to severely dry.

Slight rises in area streams and rivers have been registered as thawing continues, however base stream flows remain near to somewhat below average for this time of year.

Looking ahead, the National Weather Service says climate outlooks currently indicate an increased risk for near normal temperatures and precipitation as we move through March into April, with the typical risk for late season heavy snow or rainfall.
