A new space for mothers to talk about their experiences is coming to Winkler.

"It's Your Story is an event for all people, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles. People that want to show more direct support to mums that have gone through pregnancy, birth, and post-partum," says organizer Bella Wiebe.

When the word 'normal' is used in relation to pregnancy and birth, that can look very different from one person to the next.

"All the women at their tables will be able to share their own stories with everyone at their table groups. Everyone will get a chance to be heard."

Wiebe adds that she will be sharing about the birth of her two sons. One took place at the hospital while the other was at home.

One topic she hopes to break barriers around is post-partum depression and anxiety, which she had after her second son was born.

"It took me a long time to accept that fact that I actually needed help. He was over a year before the time I reached out to my doctor, and I was then paired with a shared care counsellor," she says, adding that she didn't know the service was covered by Manitoba Health.

The evening will also be a place to share resources, build support systems and community, and even win a door prize or two.

It's free for everyone and will start at 7:00 p.m. at the Quality Inn in Winkler. Parents who cannot find a babysitter or have children that need to be by their side are still welcome to come and take part.
