City of Morden officials are working on solutions to prevent future water quality issues.

In the past the lake has experienced large algae blooms which would cause a distinct taste and smell in the city's water system.

Faisal Anwar, Morden's City Manager, has indicated due to substantial runoff from winter, they were able to fill the reservoir and had a few weeks of run over for the dam, so they're hoping that has helped flush the lake.

However, Anwar says they aren't taking any chances. "We've started adding powder activated carbon already in anticipation of taste and odour issues to try to be proactive."

The city has also been working with engineering and environmental firms as another means of preventing an outbreak.

"We've already done a study; we completed that study last year. We're working on a plan to improve the quality of water as well as our distribution system," Anwar says.

He adds that they can't reveal any details at this time, but says they are working on a 3-4 year plan which will hopefully prevent future dips in water quality.
