Residents in the Town of Carman are showing interest in bringing more immigration services to the area.

Pembina Valley Local Immigration Partnership (PVLIP) works directly with leaders in the region to assess if local communities are welcoming and inclusive, and what services and resources are available for newcomers to integrate successfully with that community.

"There's been interest in the community to see us take a closer look at immigration - and also because there has been some immigration/refugees in the community - to ensuring that services can be accessed by them within the community as opposed to always having to go outside the community, as that does create some hardship for them to do that," says Economic Development Officer, Tyler King.

He says having services readily available can bring a lot of benefits to the community, especially inspiring more people to set up roots in Carman.

"It's great because it increases your population. We have people who are working in various businesses throughout the community, integrating into the community, and being involved in activities and sports."

One struggle they are dealing with at the moment is funding. King says this is a common struggle for any group or organization, but there will hopefully be some money coming through that can help them surpass this speed bump.

"We're also trying to work on what it is that our needs are for the community, and to be able to work with the Local Immigration Partnership on that."

Right now the PVLIP is exploring to see what will work best for the town, and although it may take some time, King notes they are dedicated to seeing more services in the area.
