There is a new fire chief and executive with the Morris Fire Department.

Wes Zilkie has taken over the position of chief from Colin Harbinson, who retired after 25 plus years with the fire department.

Zilkie explained why he wanted to take on the role.

“I felt that I could give back to the community,” he said. “I'm a business owner in town, I've been working with the fire department for 18 years. I just wanted to give everything I could back.”

Another change will see Trevor Thiessen become the new deputy fire chief, while Richard Collette, Evan Friesen, and David Funk have been named as lieutenants.

The Morris Fire Department currently has 20 members, and Zilkie says they are always looking for more.
