There is a new sculpture on display at Gardens On Tenth in Altona.

The artwork, by sculptor Peter Sawatzky, depicts a female cougar and her two cubs and was officially put unveiled Friday afternoon.

The sculpture is the latest addition to the Gardens gallery of paintings and other wall hangings that are on display in the building thanks to the hard work of two people, Elizabeth Falk and Wes Sawatzky.

Both Falk and Sawatzky live at Gardens On Tenth and make up the two-member art committee that has been instrumental in filling some of the empty wall space on all four floors with art.

Wes Sawatzky says they are constantly looking for new pieces of art to display. He says the idea of bringing in a sculpture came to them when they saw a space on the main floor hallway that would be ideal for a sculpture of some kind.

"I knew about Peter and his work and I thought I would send him an email. I sent him a picture of the space, the dimensions of the space and he responded almost immediately and seemed interested in putting something there ... and suggested the cougar with the two cubs."

According to Sawatzky, the sculpture will now be on display at the Gardens for the next two years.
