Anthony Friesen recorded his ninth win of the season as the Pembina Valley Orioles edged the defending Manitoba Junior Baseball League champion Elmwood Giants 5-4 last night in Morden. Riley Hiebert doubled home Cole Smith with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Orioles improved to 12-6 on the season while the first place Giants dropped to 16-3. The Altona Bisons dropped a 3-1 decision to the St. Boniface Legionaires. Jean Guy Bilodeau stroked a three-run homer off losing pitcher Tanner Carpenter in the top of the first inning. The Bisons record fell to 10-8. Pembina Valley's Anthony Friesen, Josh Ginter and Dale Fehr along with Altona's Mac Bachelor will play for the Manitoba Junior Baseball League All-Star team at the National Junior Championship in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec from August 19th-22nd. The coaching staff includes Brent Laverty of the Orioles, Jamie Bettens of St. Boniface and Marc Babaluk of Elmwood.
