The Winnipeg Goldeyes gave up four runs in the second and third innings and five runs in both the fifth and sixth innings and lost 19-0 to Sioux Falls. Every Canaries batter in the starting lineup had at least a hit.  The loss matched the most lopsided shutout in Goldeyes history which was also "accomplished" on August 25, 1995 at Thunder Bay. The 19 runs and 24 hits for Sioux Falls were the most this season for one game in the American Association.


Owen Pederson signed a two-year American Hockey League contract with the Providence Bruins. The 21-year-old Stony Plain native completed his fifth Western Hockey League season with the Winnipeg Ice registering career highs in games played (65), goals (32), assists (42), points (74) penalty minutes (38) and plus minus (+31). In 19 playoff games en route to Winnipeg winning the Eastern Conference Championship, Pederson had 20 points (nine goals and 11 assists). Pederson was selected by the Ice in the fifth round, 89th overall in the 2017 WHL Prospects Draft.


Golf Manitoba has announced its schedule of team competitions in 2023. The Senior Men's Four-Ball Championship will be held on August 28th at the Minnewasta Golf & Country Club in Morden. The Men’s Four-Ball Championship will be held on September 21st at the Bridges Golf Course in Starbuck. And new for 2023, the Women’s Four-Ball will be played on August 8th at the Bel Acres Golf & Country Club. Previously known as the Women’s Interclub Championship, the Women’s Four-Ball Championship is open to all Golf Manitoba club member and public player female golfers. As in the men’s four-ball events, teams of two in the Women’s Four-Ball will each play their own ball. The teammate with the lower score on each hole provides that team’s score for that hole.


It's day one of the U.S. Open at the Los Angeles County Club.  Seven Canadians - Adam Svensson, Roger Sloan, Corey Conners, Adam Hadwin, Taylor Pendrith, Mackenzie Hughes and Canadian Open champion Nick Taylor are in the field. Matthew Fitzpatrick is the defending champion.
