A 47 year-old man is recovering after being stabbed during an altercation at a home in Winkler early Wednesday morning.

According to Winkler Police Service, officers found the injured man on the sidewalk after responding to the incident on Main Street South at around 5:38 a.m. They tended to the victim until paramedics arrived, at which time he was taken to Boundary Trails Health Centre with various injuries including cuts to both of his hands and a stab would to the chest. The victim was treated at hospital and released.

Upon investigation, police say a verbal argument broke out between the victim, who was a visitor to the home, and another man. During this time, a second male suspect at the home assaulted the victim with an edged weapon.

Later that day, both suspects turned themselves into Winkler police.

As a result, the pair - a 36 year old and 30 year old from Winkler - are facing charges of Assault with a Weapon and Assault Causing Bodily Harm. Formal charges have not yet been laid and as such, suspect names will not be released. Both suspects were released on Undertakings with various conditions and court dates of May 5, 2021 in Morden Provincial Court.

The suspects and the victim were all known to each other, according to police.
