Wednesday's rainfall in the Pembina Valley was a welcome sight for farmers in the region. Rain amounts varied from about an inch to as much as 3 inches in some places like Carman and Manitou.

Warren McCutcheon, who farms in the Carman and Homewood area, says with some hot weather on the way for next week, this much-needed moisture bought them some time.

"If we hadn't received that rain, we would have gone backward a little bit, because it looked like we had stalled out. The wheat was definitely hurting and oats were looking sickly. The corn and beans are looking good and have come out of the ground nicely and should start to roll now that we've got some moisture."

McCutcheon says it's difficult to say at this point if his wheat will be able to rebound with this latest rainfall.

"It's hard to say if there was some damage done with those really hot temperatures and dry conditions for the last few weeks. Time will tell in the next few weeks."
