A Winkler man was arrested this weekend after allegedly threatening to harm himself and others with a firearm.

On Sunday, Winkler Police received a report of a 65-year-old male resident threatening to harm himself and others known to him. Police conducted a search of the male, which included a business in the Winkler industrial park, residences of people known to the male and the former residence of the male. Through this investigation police learned where the male was currently residing and attended that residence in Winkler.

At 2:58 pm, the male attended to the door of his residence where he was arrested and taken into custody without incident. During this the suspect denied making any threats. Police conducted a search of the residence as a safety precaution where they located and seized a pellet gun.

The accused was later released on an Undertaking with several conditions and is set to appear in Morden Provincial Court on August 25, 2020. Police are seeking Crown Attorney approval to formally lay charges related to this incident.

Police believe alcohol was a factor in this event.

However, police do not believe there is a risk to public safety from this incident.
