Changes are coming to the Katie Cares annual fundraising fashion show.

Executive Director, Ruth Reimer, says the 7th annual event is moving from the Winkler Bergthaler Church to Northlands Parkway Collegiate.

"We're very grateful for the hospitality that the Bergthaler Church has shown us but it's time to move on."

Reimer explained that the common area at NPC offers more space for people to mingle and check out the silent auction prizes. She added that the gym, where the fashion show will take place, offers better acoustics and a proper stage. The gym will also allow organizers to add another 12 tables to the audience.

Reimer noted this move will allow more of the community to be included in this year's show as well by incorporating students in the Esthetics, Hairstyling and Culinary Arts programs at the school.

The date of the annual fashion show is also changing. Reimer says the event has moved up from its usual date in October and is now taking place on September 29, and adds ticket sales will now happen in August.

With all of these changes, however, Reimer assures us that some things will remain the same.

She explained that the show will get started at its usual time of 7 p.m. with doors open at 6 p.m. for the silent auction.

Ticket prices will also remain the same at $60/ticket or $540/table. "We just wanted to keep it affordable. We didn't want to raise the prices of the tickets."

Reimer also hopes to bring along the same stores that have participated in the past.

Reimer added that they have plans to repaint Katie's Cottage.

"It sounds silly that we're already painting, but it's a flat paint, and so we want to add a new product that Benjamin Moore has brought out. It's high-traffic and scuff-resistant, perfect for what we need."

She noted Katie's Cottage will be closed the first two weeks of March for the repainting process.
