The Pembina Valley Water Co-op wants to improve on its delivery of water into Winkler and area. To do that, the regional water supplier is planning to build a new and larger pipeline from Roland to Winkler this year.

Water currently flows from Roland to Winkler through a 6 inch pipeline and the water co-op wants to build a new 12 inch line that could better accommodate the growth that is taking place in the Winkler area.

Greg Archibald says they are currently in the design stage of the project which they hope to wrap up by the end of this month.

"The intent is to upgrade that pipeline running from Rolland reservoir to Winkler. We're also in developmental discussions to possibly extend the pipeline over to Boundary Trails Hospital. We've been talking to the RM of Stanley to possibly build a reservoir at the hospital to support the growth happening in the corridor."

Archibald says neither the water co-op or Stanley have any funding to build that pipeline extension at this point, but the municipality is working on a new design for a reservoir that would located by the hospital.
